I am trying to produce a letterhead template in Word Mac to be used by people using Word PC. The letterhead portions are eps files created in CS3 Illustrator, outlined text, saved as tiff black and white.

They are inserted into Word and used as headers and footers. When I print the Word doc from my Mac it prints perfectly. When I print the same doc from a PC to the same printer it is pixelated. Programs such as SignGo are designed to drive cutting plotters so need to extract outlines from the EPS file to make them usable. As a result they become editable. However this does not guarantee accuracy as the result depends upon interpretation of the language. Some high-end solutions may be able to do this but they cost a fortune. If you only need a low resolution bitmap, placing an EPS in an application like InDesign, selecting the best possible preview quality and then creating a screen capture is another possibility. EPS files are used to store and exchange graphic content. Encapsulated Postscript files use similar format as Postscript files and use the same Postscript language.

Postscript language is a complex graphic representation language which controls the printing process. Ghostscript also installs with an EXE file, which takes just a few seconds and requires no further configuration. It also does a whole lot more, though. Looking at the Edit menu, you see we can insert text, crop the image, and even mark the image up with paint tools. Open the Image menu and options abound. You can adjust the color depth, sharpen, flip it vertically or horizontally, and much more.

If you go through it menu by menu, you see that Irfanview is packed with many features that go beyond the simple ability to view EPS files though it does that quite well too. There are many out there. If you simply need something that opens EPS files, with basic features including the ability to export to other image formats, then EPS Viewer is probably your best bet.

However, if you want something that is more a jack-of-all-trades image viewer, something that will open a variety of image file types and also give you some more advanced editing features, then Irfanview is a great choice. Use Google Fonts in Word.
