Since you're so mobile, capturing buildings and territory is less important than smashing the enemy and completing mission objectives. Since the game is turn based, you can take your time, and if you're bored and don't want to continue, you can bring up small data files on every unit on the battlefield, reading about the units, vehicles, and weaponry used by all the forces a field.
Plus, as you go through the game you'll unlock various different regiment designations. Play with one regiment and you might get special abilities to move quickly, another might allow you to repair vehicles on the fly. The visuals aren't that hot, but the designs of the units themselves are entertaining.
The units from either side have distinctive styling, and range from half-tracks to transport trucks to attack choppers. One of the things that I really like about this title is the audio.
Nearly all of the games I've played on the PSP have lacked one important feature. They haven't had a human voice. That doesn't sound like much, but when I don't get to hear something that approaches a human voice, I can't help but thing of really old titles. Playstation Magazine. Controls obviously take some time to learn and the maps are a little small, but the game still works exceedingly well, especially in multiplayer. Game Informer. However, the overall roughness in every aspect of the game and the mediocre single-player element make this a niche title in an already-niche genre.
But in the process of making Field Commander appeal to a more hardcore audience, Sony Online Entertainment also made the game far blander than it should be. Unit design is purely uninspired and the story and accompanying dialogue are as trite as the next game.

Great turn based stratagy game and love the idea of playing other players over the internet. Dam good fun against another player and just as good against the comp. The best strategy game on the PSP with good multiplayer support. Like the idea of hot swap so you can play with one console.
