Liberia got hit hard by a political disruption followed by civil unrest that resulted into a 14 years civil war; the war badly destroy public and urban infrastructures that were already in place or undergoing construction, and as well causing massive destruction to every development sector of the country including social, economical and environmental.

The city of Monrovia before the civil war was already going through housing crisis rising from the high migration of natives from the hinterland who came to seek jobs and a new urban life.

This migration process cause the development of slums West Point, Clara Town, New Kru Town, etc… into the closet suburbs of the capital city. Today the city does not only have a degrading image but as well as degrading infrastructures, degrading economy and a degrading environment ravage by war and poverty. Our study area is the center city of Monrovia and its adjacent slum of West Point. As mention above, these two urban spaces are interrelated and interactive but yet suffer major urban dysfunctions; degrading infrastructures roads, public equipment, public spaces, etc… , poor housing, lack of basic public facilities pipe water, sewer evacuation, electricity, etc… and congestion resulting from over crowdedness.

This project is gear towards evaluating critically the actual situation in the city center Monrovia and the adjacent slum of West Point as it relate to urbanism; the basic urban functions, urban infrastructures, the population and the environment.

Our objectives are: to revamp the image of Monrovia, produce a sustainable urban center, stimulates and develop economic activities where necessary, the security of nature and the environment and to produce viable urban infrastructures, efficient public facilities and suitable housing structures intended to provide good living condition for the local population.
